LIBRARY PROGRAM
Portage Library Celebrates the History of Motown Music
The Portage Lake District Library invites everyone to celebrate African-American History Month and the history of Motown music with rock music historian Anthony Daniel as he presents "50 Years of Motown Music: From Strong to Badu".

This two part series on the history and influence of Motown music begins on Thursday, February 4, at 6:30 p.m. with "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," an award-winning documentary about Motown's Funk Brothers who are regarded as the unsung heroes of Rock and Roll.

On Thursday, February 11, at 6:30 p.m. Anthony Daniel will present "Was It Just Pop Music?" This multi-media presentation details the cultural legacy of Motown and Berry Gordy's vision for its place in history.

Anthony Daniel has a lifelong history of studying rock music and the stories behind the songs. He hosted local radio shows from 1983 – 1992 before moving to the Detroit-Metropolitan area where he continued to work in radio and music journalism. He has won awards for his work in radio programming that also included urban blues and rhythm and blues music of the 1940's and early 1950's. He returned to the Copper Country in 2007 and co-hosts "Yearbook: The 1960's" with Darrell Nicholas on WMPL 920 AM.

PIANO LESSONS

My name is Duane (withheld for archive), and I am offering piano lessons. Specifically of interest to a homeschool group would be the children's classes I am about to start. I offer an awesome course called Piano Wizard that gets kids excited and involved in learning music quickly. I plan on starting a course as soon as 10 kids sign up, and starting a second one after the next 10 kids sign up, and so on. Attached are two of my promotional fliers for some more info. If you are interested or have questions, feel free to contact me at (withheld for archive). The cost is $10 per kid, per session, and each additional person from the same family is $5 more.
Thanks,
- Duane
