Class Acts at the Rozsa Center -

Registration needs to be made through Sara (withheld for archive) to attend any of the shows through our homeschool groups (Copper Country Home Educators & Superior Home Educators). Do not contact the Rozsa Center directly as seats have already been reserved for our groups. Also, grade recommendations need to be observed for all performances. The cost is $1 per student due the day of the performance. Seats are limited, so reserve early.

FOOLZ!

Two performers: one outwardly calm, the other wound tighter than a spring.  If there's a dim witted innocence about them, it's because their childlike charm permeates their world, placing them where something always seems to go wrong. Blending classic vaudeville with their high-tech optical illusion "NEONMAN", FOOLZ offers up something for everyone.

Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 1pm

Grades: 2-5

NEXT CLASS ACT: January 28th

Piano Lessons Reminder -

My name is Angela (withheld for archive), and I am a piano teacher. I have several years of teaching experience, and am starting a home piano studio here in the Houghton/Hancock area. I homeschooled for several years during elementary and high school, and I actually taught piano lessons my senior year of high school. I'd love to connect with some homeschooling students who are interested in learning to play piano.

I am open to teach during the day as well as late-afternoon and early evening. I charge $18 per half hour lesson, and I will teach out of my home in Hancock.  Simply contact me, Angela (withheld for archive).

Once enough articles are collected, there may also be an opportunity to have the book published!

Do you have a blog? Many homeschool families maintain blogs to keep the extended families updated on activities. If you have a blog that is appropriate for all ages and caters to homeschooling, education or family – CCHE would love to link to it! Just email the link to me or if it is on blogger.com just "follow" http://ccheupdates.blogspot.com. Thank you!

From Val (Updates Coordinator):

The "Items to Remember" section a quick synopsis of essential information. So if you do not read the entire "Updates!" please make sure that is a section you pay particularly close attention to.

CCHE is currently looking at updating the main website: http://www.cchomeeducators.com. The plan is to make a packet of information available through our website that would include links to helpful homeschooling resources. If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see there please feel free to send them to ccheupdates@gmail.com . All information finally put on the website is at the discretion of the board but we'd like as much input as possible from homeschool community members. Please remember that as updates are made to the website there may be periodic downtime.

I hope everyone got a chance to get out and vote. I was able to use this time as an excellent civics class for my son. I am so grateful that I am able to teach such an important lesson to my son rather than relegating it to a teacher that may or may not have his or her own political agendas to pass on. Some great resources for teaching about civics, politics and civic duty include:

http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,1607,7-127-1633---,00.html

Secretary of State website for MI which lists voters' information, results, laws and regulations.

http://teacher.scholastic.com/scholasticnews/indepth/election2008.htm

This is from the 2008 Presidential election but it is still up and full of fun games that help kids understand the election process better.

https://webapps.sos.state.mi.us/mivote/

Michigan Voter Information website – show's sample ballots.

http://www.politics1.com/parties.htm

This website has links to all the various political parties. In an effort to be non-partisan I've decided not to directly link to any political party since I could not spend time/space to link to them all. This website does a great job of it though.

And of course, just letting the child get involved in researching the candidates and see you voting are great educational tools!
