WRITING CONTEST
Build Connections Across Generations
Get students thinking about their life goals and build closer connections across generations through the Legacy Project's annual Listen to a Life Essay Contest. The grand prize includes a Lenovo Think Centre computer for the student, along with $25,000 worth of Orchard educational software for the school. There's also a free online activity kit filled with life interview ideas and goal-setting activities with curriculum connections. To participate in the contest, a student between 8 and 18 years of age interviews a grandparent or grand friend 50 years or older about the older person's hopes and goals through life, how the person achieved the goals and overcame obstacles or how dreams may have changed along the way. The student then writes a 300-word essay based on the interview. In addition to the grand prize, there are 20 runners-up prizes of $400 worth of Orchard software and an MP3player.

LEARNING SESSIONS WITH CHRIS "WOOD" ANDERSON
THEME:
I'd like to do a project with students involving snowboarding/skateboarding/trick bike facilities.
We can use 2nd level (at Dee Stadium) as a close, real park to take observations.
Later, I'm going to look into potential materials to build a model.
Other aspects can involve architectural aspects to design of parks.
regulations, history of parks, board design, economics of the sport, etc. can grow this project.
If you have any additional aspects, please share your thoughts.

FINLANDIA UNIVERSTIY'S FUSION FEST
Finlandia University's International School of Art and Design is hosting Fusion Fest on Saturday, March 20th from 12 to 6 pm at the Jutila Center.
Fusion Fest is an art and music festival featuring art demonstrations, an art scavenger hunt, live music, group painting, raku pottery, tie dyeing, kid's activities, food, free dancing lessons from 4 to 6, an artist's market with work from students and local artists, and more!
New to Fusion Fest this year is "Cookies as Your Canvas", a baking contest for artful cookies.  Call (withheld for archive) for official rules to enter, or come by the bake sale to cast your vote for people's choice award.  Buy a Fusion Fest t-shirt and tie dye it for free or bring a %100 cotton garment from home to dye for a small fee.
Proceeds from Fusion Fest fund the art student's annual trip to the Self Employment in Arts conference in Chicago, where students learn about business opportunities in the arts, get one-on-one career coaching, network with students and professionals in the arts, and learn from successful artists working around the country.
