COPPER COUNTRY HOME EDUCATORS UPDATES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry everyone, I pressed send instead of save as I was gathering all of the information for the updates, so you all have an incomplete email.  Here is the rest of it.....
LIBRARY EVENTS
Here are some fantastic programs that are being presented by great organizations. They are all for children and families.
Joan Chadde and her students from the Western U.P. Center for Science, Math, and Environmental Education at MTU are willing to do a program for homeschooling families on a Friday afternoon from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. That is the day and time that many of you told me works best for your schedules.
The program would be Part II of the event listed in the attachment in this email and would focus on more and different engineering activities for K-6 students and their families.
I would like to schedule it in April for the best continuity for your kids. April could be Engineering Month filled with science projects and activities. April 9 might be too close on the heels of the evening before, and Home School Drama is scheduled for April 16 and 30. That leaves Friday, April 23 as the only choice.
Does that sound good to you? I would like a registration affirmation from you before I schedule it. You can call me at the library at 482-4570 or email me at calquist@hotmail.com
On Saturday, March 27, children are invited to hop on over for another great Storytime presented by the Houghton High School Key Club from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Key Club students will read stories about rabbits and do a springtime project with participants.
Elementary-aged children and their families are invited to "Family Engineering Night" on Thursday, April 8, from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. for an evening of fun hands-on engineering activities. From 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. participants will have nine engineering activity stations to explore that include boxing beans, toothpick towers, cantilever dominoes, sound proof package, toppling towers, thrill seekers, test to failure, communicating design, and who engineered it? At 7:00 p.m. the Engineering Design Challenges will begin with families working together to do several hands-on design and building challenges.
This event is conducted by the Western U.P. Center for Science, Math, and Environmental Education and the Michigan Tech Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering with funding from the The National Science Foundation.
Children are also encouraged to use the new Children's Listening Center at the library. Music, foreign languages, and stories on CDs are available for use during their visit to the library. Please ask a librarian to help you get started.
Everyone is welcome to all library programs and presentations are free. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570 or visit www.pldl.org
