Juggling Unicyclists to Perform at Portage Library

A trio of athlete-artists will return to the Portage Lake District Library to present their unique form of entertainment on Wednesday, August 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Juggling unicyclists Bob, Jason, and Ben will demonstrate unicycle riding techniques outside the library's main door at 6:30 p.m. Afterwards, follow them into the community room at 7:00 p.m. for the "Bob, Jason, and Ben Juggling Show," where participants will be involved in an interactive comedy juggling performance. Children will play juggling games with the trio and watch as they toss balls, rings, clubs, and everything else into the air. New tricks will be performed, and after the show, participants will have time to learn and practice juggling techniques.

Everyone is invited to attend library programs and presentations are free. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570 or visit www.pldl.org

Calumet Art Center Seeking Art
Ed from the Calumet Art Center asked to pass this info. on to students who contributed artwork to Keweenaw: Art from Our Youth, and anyone else, student or adult, who might be interested in painting a small (9" x 12") canvas to donate to the art center for a fundraiser. Here's how it works: Ed provides the canvas, then collects the finished paintings by September 15th. The back of each painting is marked with a number between 1 and 50 (the number of canvases). The works are displayed all together (each painting must be horizontal, not vertical) on a wall, NOT in the order that they are numbered. Interested persons in the community may then purchase tickets for (I believe) $25 each. Each ticket has a number on it. After a certain number of days, ticket holders claim their paintings, only they don't know which painting they'll be getting until they actually receive it. I thought it sounded like fun, provides an opportunity to show off your work at the Art Center, and is a great way to help them raise money. Those persons interested in painting a canvas can email Ed at (withheld for archive)
Correction
The June 3 release of CCHE Updates contained a notice "Mars - closest approach in recorded history" that claimed this event would happen August 27 this year.
We have heard from a reader that the Mars encounter described in that update actually happened August 27, 2003, six years ago. Our apologies for the confusion.
