THURSDAYS AT THE BEACH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now that the weather has started to turn towards summer, we will once again meet at the Hancock Beach on Thursdays from 1pm to 3pm. This is a great opportunity to stay connected with homeschooling friends over the summer. Last year we tried to use balloons to identify our group, but that didn't always work. We also look like a birthday party at that point. We are looking for ideas on where we can meet and what we can use to let others know we are there. This Thursday, the 18th - look for balloons but hopefully we can find some other way soon. We would also like to have some planned activities. Let us know if you have suggestions as to possible games or activities that are good for a group of kids. We hope to have a day to tie-dye some t-shirts. Stay posted for details.
Dear Homeschooling Family,
The SPEAKER roster is better than ever! You're going to love it! (And, we're not done yet!)
The extremely popular WORLDVIEW Teen Track has been expanded, and is being led by John Stonestreet and Dr. Jeff Myers!
Brand New for 2010...an OPTIONAL Children's Program!
The Exhibit Hall will again be huge - and is filling quickly!
Registration will again be extremely affordable - particularly Early Bird Registration! You'll want to watch for future updates!
And, there's another brand new feature for 2010...please keep reading! :)
Plus...
Parking options are being expanded.
We again have fantastic hotel discounts.
The MILLENNIUM Hotel has added PERKS for our homeschool convention guests. They LOVED having homeschoolers there this past year, and they are "staffing-up" and creating a "Homeschool Week" coinciding with the Homeschool Convention!
In response to the fantastic attendance this past year (particularly "family" attendance), the Convention Center has greatly expanded food options, and has even lowered food pricing for the Homeschool Convention while also including Children's menu options!
And, we're making a variety of adjustments and changes in order to provide our convention attendees with an even better experience!
Friday Night Special Performance...
On Friday night, there will be an available / optional performance with comedian TIM HAWKINS! (You may have heard the "A Homeschool Family" parody song?)
Finally...
For those that participated in the after-convention survey...THANKS VERY MUCH!
We have carefully reviewed each response! Your comments, encouragement and suggestions are very appreciated!!
Please mark your calendars, and make your plans to attend the MidWest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati...April 8-10, 2010 at the Duke Energy Center.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Even with thousands of homeschoolers (from 22 states) attending this past year's convention...there are still countless homeschoolers that have never heard of the MidWest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati.
Will you help us spread-the-word?
We'd be so very grateful if you would invite your homeschooling friends to visit the MidWest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati website, and encourage them to plan to attend the April 2010 convention!
THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Brennan & Mary Jo Dean
ART CENTER CLEAN UP
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A huge "Thank You" to those who were able to come to the new Calumet Art Center on Monday night to help with the cleaning. A lot was accomplished! Below is a list of the remaining areas that need to be taken care of.
Again, I want to urge us homeschool families to help however we can to get this facility up and running. The organizer (Ed Gray) and the board believes that teaching art to people of all ages is important and it should be accessible to all. I am on the Calumet Art Center board and my goal is to help make this facility available for our homeschool group educational activities (drama club, writers workshops, sewing, reading groups, projects, etc), BUT we need to help to show we are interested. There has even been an inquiry as to whether this would be a good location for a curriculum and homeschool reference material lending library (folks have talked about this for years but we've never had a handy place to set up a bookshelf)—I will work on seeing if this would be an option for here.
A group of us are going to the Calumet Art Center on Wednesday, June 24th at 10am for about 2 hours and hope to get a bunch of the remaining areas taken care of. If you are interested in coming to help but can't make it on that day/time, let me know and we can figure out another time as well. Please feel free to email or call me if you have questions (withheld for archive) --Amy
