Gluten-Free Recipe Exchange at PLDL -

Regular meetings of the Gluten-Free Recipe Exchange are held on the 3rd Monday of each month from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Portage Lake District Library. The next meeting will be December 20, and everyone is invited to participate.

Each month will feature a different type of food, and December's meeting will focus on gluten-free pies and desserts. Participants are welcome to bring their favorite gluten-free pie or dessert for sampling and are encouraged to share their recipes. Copies of the recipes will be made at the library. Please list all ingredients used in making foods that are shared at these meetings and identify the brand names of the gluten-free ingredients. Bringing food is not a requirement for attendance.

The Gluten-Free Recipe Exchange is organized by and for those who are interested in or required to follow a gluten-free diet. Gluten-free eating requires the avoidance of all wheat, rye, barley, and oats. Most people find it challenging at first, but are excited to find recipes and foods that are fun and easy to make and tasty to eat. The Gluten-Free Recipe Exchange is an opportunity to share those great recipes and learn from others. Everyone who is interested in learning more about gluten-free eating is encouraged to attend.

This program is free and open to all. For more information, please (withheld for archive) or visit www.pldl.org.

Young Adults Book Club at PLDL –

Chris at the Portage Library announced the start of another book group for young adults – unfortunately I did not get the announcement out before the first meeting (which was held this past Monday). However, I encourage you to contact Chris and join-in on the future meetings:

The Portage Lake District Library invites students to join its Young Adult Book Group for teens. Participants will meet at the library on the second Monday of each month and possibly more often if there is interest. Students will choose what they will read, and the selection will include books, poems, magazines, and newspapers.

This program is free, no registration is required, and it is open to all area high school students. For more information, please call the library at 482-4570.

On December 24th, 2010, the CLK Rotary will once again be lighting 73 luminaries, one for each person who died in the 1913 Christmas Eve tragedy at the Italian Hall in Calumet. Luminaries will be placed out at the Italian Hall Park on the afternoon of December 24th and removed on Christmas Day.

YMCA Killer Whales Swim Team –

We hope your swimmers are interested in this fun 8 week session! We have an awesome team and hope the great energy can continue throughout the long winter months!

See the link for the flyer for Killer Whales Session 2.  New this session we are trying a "Try the Team"  Week.  If you have friends who have thought about KW but have wanted to try it before making the commitment of a full session, pass the flyer on to them.

We will be getting the flyers, posters, e-mails, and newspaper articles out this week, but the best marketing is word of mouth so please feel free to pass on the flyer to potentially interested swim families.

Thanks!

Christmas Sales to Support CCHE –

Remember – if you plan on buying books, software, movies, video games or other presents online – please consider purchasing your items through CCHE's website or blog! It doesn't cost you anything extra – so if you already planned on buying online – why not help out a local homeschooling organization?

So, for the next couple weeks there will be an advertisement for Amazon.com on these sites (this is the only time you'll see it).  You can click the advertisement to go to Amazon.com – then a portion of anything you buy will go to help support your local homeschooling community!

http://www.cchomeeducators.com

http://ccheupdates.blogspot.com

http://cchearticles.blogspot.com

This promotion is in addition to our Amazon.com storefront that only sells homeschool related books/items. Throughout the year – if there is a homeschool item you'd like to see in our store or some curriculum you plan on buying – just email ccheupdates@gmail.com and we can add it. Then those purchases will also help support CCHE and the greater homeschool community!

Thank you!
