Corn Maze at Somero's Farm – RSVP's NEEDED ASAP

Somero's farm has an a-MAZE-ing corn maze that you have to go through to believe. From the outside it looks small and boring but with over 5 miles of trail and check points that can earn you candy or a chance at a giant pumpkin – it's a LOT of fun. The corn is tall enough that even adults get lost and kids love ringing the bell on the bridge…. I thought this would be a spectacular event for the homeschooling groups. So, I spoke with the woman in charge and she offered us ½ price (normally $5 per a person – would be $2.50) IF we come in a group (this is the same deal the local school districts get). The corn maze only lasts so long as the corn stays good and they have pumpkins for sale. For that reason I need RSVPs as soon as possible. I need numbers of kids and adults that would be interested. Tentatively, this would be on Friday October, 8th or Tuesday October 12th. Times are variable – so let me know which date works best and any times that DO NOT work for your family on those days. Once I have confirmation of a group of participants I will contact Somero's Farm and confirm the date and time, then I will send out another email with more specifics. Thanks – Val ccheupdates@gmail.com

Storytime Schedule - PLDL

Storytime for the school year begins on Wednesday, October 6, at the Portage Lake District Library and will be held every Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 10:15 – 11:15 a.m. Young children are invited to come for stories, craft projects, occasional music, and lots of fun. During inclement weather, weekday sessions will follow school closings. For Saturday programs, please call the library to check for closings.

Children are also encouraged to use the Children's Listening Center at the library. Music, foreign languages, and stories on CDs are available for use during their visits to the library. Up to four people at a time can use the equipment, including parents who want to help their children learn another language or simply enjoy music or a good book together. Please ask a librarian to help get you started.

All library programs are free and everyone is welcome. For more information, please visit www.pldl.org.

If you have something you'd like to share with the homeschooling community, please email it to ccheupdates@gmail.com

From Val (Updates Coordinator):

Thanks to my father-in-law, I always know when it's safe to be in the woods, but if you don't have a hunter in the family you may not be aware that deer season has begun. Right now is "early bow season" which will progress to rifle season on November 15th. This means that the woods are becoming a little less safe for our children. Make sure you know whether a particular piece of land is used by hunters before venturing into the woods. Also anyone adventuring into the woods should wear bright orange, especially once the rifle season begins.

Also, once again I'm having issues with gmail's contact list. I am attempting to organize it so that only those that want the Updates! receive the Updates!. So, if you are receiving these emails and DO NOT want to receive the Updates! just reply and I will correct the situation. The issue is that those that are emailed occasionally (say as part of coordinating an event or even to confirm removal FROM the list - lol) get added automatically to our mailing list. So I'm in the painstaking process of trying to get only those that WANT the Updates! moved to another folder of contacts so that this will not happen in the future (with luck!).
