Future Historians –

      You Better Steer Clear

or Else!
What:
"She's Not As Shiny As She Used to Be - The Shipwreck Story of the City of Bangor"

On November 30, 1926, the ship City of Bangor was bound for Duluth with a cargo of over 220 new Chryslers. While rounding Keweenaw Point it hit the rocks, her hull was ripped open, and water poured into the engine room. Their ship frozen into the ice along a barren stretch of coastline, the owners came up with a novel method to salvage her cargo. After hiring a crew of workers from the local area, the cars were driven off the ship and along the icy shoreline to Copper Harbor. From there, the Chryslers headed overland to Calumet, where they were loaded onto railcars back to Detroit for repairs.
