Here is an idea from one of our families-

Is there anyone out there who would like to share the joy of teaching our kids? I am thinking that my kids and myself would like to learn together with other families by getting together on a weekly basis and take turns teaching them. The possibilities are endless.... do you have a passion for math or reading or writing and would you like to share your passion with others? Are you a dad who can show how to change oil in a car or build something? I would love to get together with you and share ideas. Please email me if you are interested in sharing.

Tis the Season...

This holiday season, the Carnegie Museum is planning our Second Annual
Gingerbread House display and we are appealing to you for help!

We are asking anyone interested to create a gingerbread house for us
to include in our display and currently have enlisted several people
to make replicas of a few of our local architectural features
including Finlandia University's Old Main, the Portage Lift Bridge,
and the Carnegie Museum. We invite all kinds of confectionary
buildings; the only "rule" is that the outside of the piece should be
made of edible material - last year we had several made of made of
pretzels, graham crackers, even one with bird seed baked into the
sides! You may use non-edible material for the underlying structure -
many people find building their "house" around cardboard boxes (like
cereal boxes, etc.) improves its stability.

We had such fun working together last year, this year we will host two
community work sessions - Tuesday December 2 and 9, from 3:30 - 6:30.
We invite anyone interested in stopping by for a few minutes or the
whole evening to work a bit on either our play house size gingerbread
house, one of the smaller models, or bring your own if you would like
help decorating! All ages and levels of experience are welcomed;
however, young children must be accompanied by an adult. We also
welcome and donations of candy, cookies etc. to cover the houses!

On Tuesday, December 16th, from 4 - 6:30, the Carnegie Museum will
host a Holiday Open House. We will offer cookies, a warm beverage,
holiday music and have the completed gingerbread houses on display.
In addition, especially for children, we will have our walk-through
gingerbread house, cookie decorating, and more!

If you are interested in creating a gingerbread house, please let us
know with a
(withheld for archive), so we may plan the space. In order to
set up the exhibit in time for the Open House, we will need your
creation by Saturday, December 13. You may either drop it off at the
Museum during our open hours (Tuesdays 12 - 7, Thursdays 12 - 5,
Saturdays 12 - 4), or call to arrange to have it picked up.

Even if you are unable to make a "house" for us, we hope that you
will stop by during our open house to view the display and have a cookie
or two. Maybe you will be inspired for next year!

Special for the holidays, we will be open Monday, December 22 and Monday, December 29 from 12 - 4. The exhibit will remain through the two weeks of January. With thanks and best wishes for a happy holiday season,
Elise Nelson
