Join CCHE in welcoming Jon as he presents "Get Set for College". Meet at the Portage Lake Library Community Room Thursday, May 13 at 6:30 pm.

For the past 11 years, Jon has delivered the Get Set for College presentation for a variety of audiences across the Midwest.  This is a partnership program between the higher education professional and the home schooling community.  Jon serves as a advocate for all levels of post-secondary degrees to help strengthen the educational and career planning curriculum being delivered to students.  The steps covered in the presentation include:

-Knowing yourself & your reasons for attending college (completing an individual academic inventory)
-Considering different college characteristics (focus on the right fit for the student/self-evaluation)
-List, visit & compare different schools (what is & what isn't a campus visit)
-Applying for admission & meeting all deadlines (when to begin, what to do & how to do it) -Developing a plan to pay for higher education (scholarships, financial aid & other sources of funding)
-Reviewing & finalizing plans for future higher education (tech school, community college, university, etc)

Bring your questions and invite a friend.

For high school students who want a close-up, hands-on look at what's available in resource-related jobs today. Students will meet with working professionals, learn about natural resource colleges, learn what various occupations require for education or training, what they pay, and what today's job market is like.
Contact Joe (withheld for archive) for more information or download an application form (PDF file).

Portage Library Hosts Special Storytime
The Portage Lake District Library invites all children to a special Storytime on Saturday, May 8, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. as Ariel Lake presents "Ladybugs!" Kids will learn about the important work ladybugs do, find out what they eat and where they live, and listen to a classic story about a ladybug. They will also make a ladybug costume and puppet to take home. Bug cookies will be served.
EDUCATIONAL WEBSITE
I thought this website may be of interest to many homeschooling families. This has simple to understand but comprehensive videos on various subjects including math, science, economics and history.
