FOURTH THURSDAY IN HISTORY:
From One Office to Another
In 1887, the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company opened a new general office along Calumet's Red Jacket Road. Today, after an extensive rehabilitation project, it serves as the headquarters of Keweenaw National Historical Park, which was established to preserve and interpret the Keweenaw's copper mining heritage. Join architectural historian Lynn Bjorkman, landscape architect, Steve DeLong, and historical architect, John Rosemurgy, to get a behind-the-scenes tour of this distinctive building and learn more about its past and present.

Future Historians:
Let's Learn About
Michigan's Largest Mammal!
What: "Mainland Michigan Moose"
Moose were once common in Michigan's Northern Lower and Upper Peninsulas. By 1900, they were nearly extirpated across the State. Today's origins of mainland Michigan moose date from 1985 and 1987, when 61 moose were translocated by the DNR from Ontario, Canada, to northwest Marquette County. The goal of Michigan's moose translocation and management program was a self-sustaining, free-ranging moose population. During this PowerPoint program Mr. Aho will detail how the moose were brought to Michigan, and discuss how the herd management is doing today.
Who: Mr. Robert Aho, Wildlife Biologist, Michigan DNR
When: Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM
Where: Michigan Iron Industry Museum, 73Forge Road, Negaunee Township, museum auditorium
