Just came across a neat website that instructs you how to make just about anything with what you have lying around:
Thought you might want to share with homeschoolers.

Sturgeon River Sloughs
Looking for a nice place to hike this fall? Have you tried the Sloughs? It is an excellent place to hike with young children- the trail is flat, there are wetlands to look at as well as woods. The trail is just south of Chassell on 41- past the Sturgeon River Kennels (on the west side of the road) the sloughs are on the east side of the road. There is a small parking lot and a wooden tower to climb. There are no bathroom facilities so be sure to 'go' before you arrive. I like to bring along a water bottle and apples to sustain me and my companions. I think we spent all of 2 hours hiking, stopping to look at trees, squirrels and other interesting wildlife and having our snack on a bench by the Snake River If you are lucky and go early in the morning or in the evening, the wetlands may be full of Canadian geese!
